WINTER WEATHER ON THE WAY? MAYBE, BUT YOUR GOLF COURSE IS READY.

If you believe the weathermen, it seems the first round of winter weather may impact your golf course this weekend. Below is the most recent 10-day forecast (as of the time of this posting) and there are several chances for rain and/or some form of frozen precipitation. As is often the case, the forecast is likely to change multiple times but whether we see snow or not, we will almost certainly experience some very cold temperatures.

Regardless of the exact form of winter weather that ultimately materializes, your golf course is ready. Fall fertility has been applied, fungicide applications are up to date, and a host of other tasks aimed at "putting the course to bed for the winter" have been performed. Believe it or not, the hot and humid summer conditions are not the only time of year golf course turfgrass is at risk for fungal attack. Winter weather, especially when there are periods of extended snow and ice cover, can leave the plants susceptible to various fungal pathogens often commonly referred to as snow mold. But, have no fear, your golf course was treated with plant protectant products this week leaving your course prepared for whatever may come.

Perhaps an unusual sight, a spray rig on the golf course in late fall or early winter is not uncommon.  Generally, in this part of the country, one or two fungicide applications are made to prevent the formation of fungal pathogens called "snow mold".
