COURSE UPDATE 4/1/16

Spring has certainly arrived at Chantilly National and your golf course maintenance team has been busy with the first few mows of the season, firing up the irrigation system, landscape bed maintenance and mulching, and a host of other projects.

The irrigation system was brought online this week.  We did find a few issues that will need to be addressed but nothing too significant.  The biggest issues are pipe breaks at the range tee and #16 fairway.  Fortunately, these issues appeared in a period when the turf is not in need of water so we will have plenty of time to get them repaired before the system is required.

Additionally, we have been doing some preventative maintenance on hole #16.  All of the "new" rough has been aerified and fertilized.  And the fairway has been aerified with a deep tine machine that reached a depth of 6-8".  As expected, we found a few rocks and bent a lot of aerification tines but the fairway will certainly be healthier in the long run.

Looking forward, there are a few upcoming maintenance practices on the schedule.  Tee and fairway aerification will begin next week.  This process should take about 2 weeks.  Also, greens aerification is scheduled for Tuesday, April 12 and Wednesday, April 13.  The greens will be closed while the work is in progress.

Some of the bent tines that found rocks on #16 fairway - we lost about 30 tines total that day.
